CFOP Cross

Case recognition

  • Top · White Up · Aligned

    The white edge rests on the U layer with its white sticker pointing up and its side color already lined up over its home center.

    Double-Turn Drop

    Turn the home face 180° (R2 / L2 / F2 / B2) to slide the edge straight down into the cross.

    No U-adjustment needed — the edge is already home-aligned.

    A 180° turn of that face flips the edge down into the cross, turning the white sticker from up to down in a single double-turn. A quarter-turn would only swing the edge sideways and leave the white pointing to a side.

    Use the full 180° (double) turn — a single quarter-turn leaves the white sticker sideways instead of face-down.

  • Top · White Up · Needs U-Align

    The white edge rests on the U layer with its white sticker pointing up, but its side color faces the wrong center.

    Align & Drop

    Rotate U until the side color matches its center, then turn that face 180° to drop the edge in.

    U-rotate the top layer until the side color lines up over its home center.

    A U move swings the edge around the top until its side color matches the center; the same 180° turn as the aligned case then drops it in with the white facing down.

    Rotate only the U layer to align — never twist the whole cube, or you move the cross edges you have already placed.

  • Top · White Sideways

    The white edge rests on the U layer with its white sticker facing a side, not up.

    Flip Down

    Turn the face the white sticker sits on to roll the edge down into the cross with white facing down.

    Turn the face directly under the white sticker to bring the edge to the bottom.

    Because the white sticker points sideways, this edge must be flipped down rather than dropped. Turning the face under the white sticker rolls the edge into the bottom layer while rotating the white sticker from sideways to face-down.

    This edge must flip, not drop — a 180° turn would keep the white sideways. Turn the face the white sticker is on so it rolls down face-first.

  • Middle Layer · Aligned

    The white edge is wedged in the middle layer with its side color facing its home center.

    Eject & Drop

    Turn the home face to eject the edge up to the U layer, then place it down into the cross.

    Eject the edge straight up along its home face to the U layer.

    An edge wedged in the middle layer can't be seated directly. Turning its home face pops the edge up to the U layer, where the same top-layer moves drop it into the cross.

  • Middle Layer · Needs U-Align

    The white edge is wedged in the middle layer with its side color facing the wrong center.

    Eject, Align & Drop

    Eject the edge up to U, rotate U to align the side color, then drop it into the cross.

    Eject to the U layer, then U-rotate until the side color matches its center.

    Like the aligned middle case, the edge must first be ejected up to the U layer. Once on top, a U move aligns its side color with the home center before it is dropped in.

    Eject first, align second — you can't line up the side color while the edge is still trapped in the middle layer.

  • Bottom · White Sideways

    The white edge is in the bottom layer with its white sticker facing a side instead of down.

    Extract & Re-Insert

    Lift the edge out to the U layer, then re-insert it so the white sticker faces down.

    Extract the edge up to the U layer to free it.

    The edge is already in the bottom ring but the white sticker points sideways, so it can't be flipped in place. Lifting it out to the U layer frees it to be re-inserted correctly with white facing down.

  • Bottom · Wrong Slot

    The white edge is in the bottom layer with its white sticker facing down, but seated in the wrong slot.

    Out → Align → In

    Double-turn the edge out to U, rotate U to its home center, then double-turn it back into the cross.

    Bring the edge out to the U layer, then U-align over its home center.

    The edge is correctly oriented (white down) but in the wrong slot. A 180° turn lifts it out to the top (white flips up), a U move walks it over its home center, and a second 180° turn drops it back in — now in the right place.

    Don't re-flip this edge — it is already white-down. Just walk it out, over, and back in with two double-turns and a U.

  • Cross Done

    All four white edges are solved into the bottom cross.

    No moves needed — the cross is complete; continue to F2L.

    The CFOP cross is already solved. Continue to F2L.
